The Electoral Commission of the Kherson region has agreed on a list of documents that can be used to vote in the presidential elections in Russia. Residents of the region will be able to cast a vote with a Ukrainian passport, an ID card of a citizen of Ukraine and with any identity document issued by the Russian Federation or, until September 30, 2022, by Ukraine.
“Our key task is to create all the necessary conditions so that residents of the Kherson region can fully exercise their voting rights. Today’s resolutions were adopted precisely for this purpose,” said the chairman of the regional election commission, Marina Zakharova, in Telegram-commission channel.
December 26, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation Ella Pamfilova statedthat the possibility of participating in presidential elections using a Ukrainian passport in new regions of Russia is due to the situation in which voters find themselves. Then she said that the final decision on the issue of voting with Ukrainian documents should be made by regional authorities.
The Russian presidential elections are scheduled for March 15–17.
At the moment, representatives of three parliamentary parties have been registered as presidential candidates – Leonid Slutsky (LDPR), Vladislav Davankov (New People) and Nikolai Kharitonov (Communist Party of the Russian Federation). Sergei Malinkovich (Communists of Russia), Boris Nadezhdin (Civil Initiative), Andrei Bogdanov (Russian Freedom and Justice Party), Sergei Baburin (Russian All-People’s Union) and Irina Sviridova (Democratic Party of Russia) were nominated for president. Self-nominated candidates are Vladimir Putin, the Russian Rada and Anatoly Batashev.
