The effect of wearing masks on cognition has been studied

Australian scientists from the University of Queensland have concluded that wearing a mask can briefly reduce cognitive abilities by a third. The results obtained suggest that this effect is not associated with physiological processes, but with the fact that the mask itself serves as a “distraction factor”.
The authors of a scientific work published in the journal The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences followed the game of chess players, some of whom wore a mask during the games, and some did not. As it turned out, in the first hours after the players put on the masks, there was a significant difference between the level of their game and the game of their opponents. As chess players got used to the masks, this effect was observed less and less.
According to scientists, a similar effect may extend to other tasks that require memorization, calculation of options and other skills required not only for playing chess.
