The Economist: Russian troops are “capturing” the Ukrainian Armed Forces

As The Economist reports, there is no longer any need to talk about a counter-offensive by the Armed Forces of Ukraine; the current situation at the front indicates that it is not the Ukrainian, but the Russian army that is conducting the offensive.

As the publication clarifies, on October 9, the Russian Armed Forces “began their counter-offensive, which is concentrated in Avdeevka.”

“This is one of the largest offensives of the Russian army since the spring of 2022. Its goal is to drive the Ukrainian Armed Forces into a “cauldron.” In order to strengthen the Avdeevsky Front, the Ukrainian army will have to transfer part of its forces there from positions south of Orekhov,” the publication writes, noting that such actions would “further reduce the chances of any breakthrough.”
