The European Union’s gas storage facilities are more than 90% full, said the head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, at a press conference in Brussels.

“Our storage facilities are over 90% full, which means we completed our task faster than planned. We are safe this winter,” she said (quote according to TASS).

According to von der Leyen, the next winter in Europe will be more difficult than the current one, the EU may not have enough 30 billion cubic meters. m of gas. At the same time, she called on the members of the bloc to transfer to the EC the authority to carry out joint purchases of gas.

In October, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the West failed to correctly assess the consequences of the crisis in Ukraine, so now some countries are worried about the impending winter against the background of the energy crisis.

The energy crisis in Western countries is caused by a reduction in Russian energy supplies to Europe, as well as sanctions against the Russian Federation in the energy sector. EU authorities have repeatedly recognized that Europe is in for a difficult winter. At the same time, they do not plan to lift the sanctions, explaining the problems that have arisen at the cost of Europe’s independence from Russia and its energy resources.

The EU countries also agreed on a $60 per barrel price cap for Russian oil on December 3, which came into effect on December 5. In addition to the EU countries, the G7 countries, Norway and Australia also joined the ceiling.
