Von der Leyen: EC begins review of Ukrainian legislation for EU accession
The head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, announced that a check of Ukrainian legislation for compliance with European legislation has begun in order to begin negotiations on the country’s membership in the EU.
“In preparation for accession negotiations, we are starting a screening process and establishing a structure for negotiations,” von der Leyen said at a session of the European Parliament (EP).
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky and the head of the EP on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum agreed that the parties would begin checking the legislation of the former Soviet republic. In addition, the decision to provide Kyiv with 50 billion euros in financial assistance was discussed.
