Paris Saint-Germain football club pays Kylian Mbappe €200 million a year. This was reported by The Times. This is exactly the amount, according to journalists, that the team managers will have freed up to carry out a new transfer campaign. Mbappe should move to Real Madrid in the summer. Why does the hype around one of the most expensive players in the world not stop? Kommersant FM sports commentator Vladimir Osipov looked into it.

We have long been accustomed to large salaries in football, but the €200 million that Mbappe earns impressed everyone. Even in Saudi Arabia, only Cristiano Ronaldo receives comparable money, where he is paid not only for football, but also for his legendary name. As for PSG, which is owned by the Qatari sheikhs, the club has never skimped on stars. And even now, when it seems that Mbappe’s move to Real is already a settled matter, he may well offer the Frenchman an amount that will be difficult to refuse, football agent Vadim Trushkov, who lives and works in Paris, is sure:

“My mother is in charge of everything there, the whole family. Now the money is paid like that, but from PSG you can extract an amount even multiplied by two, and the club will not become poorer, it will give this money. This is wild and abnormal, this should not happen, but these are the realities.”

So, when moving to Real Madrid, Mbappe, it seems, should seriously lose money. Representatives of the Madrid club have repeatedly stated that they are not ready to pay the Frenchman more than €30 million. But the reduction in salaries at the club does not mean that the entire amount of payments per year will be less, football agent Dmitry Selyuk, who worked with football stars, told Kommersant FM : “Kylian Mbappé’s money is fine. He can do an advertisement for some serious company and get no less money, and maybe more.”

Therefore, it is likely that Mbappe will receive his €200 million in Madrid, and one should not be surprised at such serious amounts of payments, says football manager Yuri Belous: “Football today is an entertainment industry. When, for example, they make a film in Hollywood, they spend $100 million on it and earn $1.5 billion. Why not pay, relatively speaking, $20-30 million, maybe more, to some great artist?

Football players are the same actors who today attract stadiums of 100 thousand people and billions of online viewers. Of course, Mbappe is an outstanding footballer. He’s worth the money. You just have to be glad that intercontinental corporations are paying that kind of money today. And I would, of course, be happy with his performance.”

Well, after Mbappe’s departure, PSG is going to change its transfer policy and rely on young French players. True, they are not going to give up stars in Paris either. For example, they want to get Victor Osimhen from Napoli, and Marcus Rashford from Manchester United. PSG’s sporting adviser Luis Campos is tasked with building a young team capable of winning the Champions League.

But if the richest French team did not manage to take the main club trophy of the continent with stars of the level of Messi and Mbappe, then it will be interesting to look at an attempt to do this with youth. It is quite possible that Kylian Mbappe, if he leaves for Real, will be able to take the trophy much faster than the Parisians. Unless, of course, the financial history of the star player ultimately overshadows the football one, as happened, for example, with Neymar.
