The Dutch Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador because of Moscow’s reaction to the court decision in the MH17 case

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned Alexander Shulgin, Russian Ambassador to The Hague, following a court decision in the case of a Boeing 777 shot down in the sky over Ukraine in 2014, which was on flight MH17 from Amsterdam to Malaysian Kuala Lumpur. This was reported to the ANP agency by the head of the Dutch Foreign Ministry Wopke Hoekstra, transmits Reuters.
It is noted that the Russian ambassador was summoned because of Moscow’s reaction to the court verdict.
Earlier today, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the decision of the court in The Hague, doubted in its objectivity. He noted that the Russian side was never admitted to the investigation. According to Peskov, it is necessary to conduct a “deep analysis” of the court decision.
The day before, November 17, the court in The Hague acknowledged Igor Girkin (Strelkov), Sergei Dubinsky (Khmury) and Leonid Kharchenko (Krot) were guilty of the Boeing 777 crash. They were sentenced to life imprisonment, and the convicts must also pay the relatives of the victims at least 16 million euros in compensation. In addition, the court determined that flight MH17 was shot down by a Buk missile defense system from a field near Pervomayskoye.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation called the judgment is politically motivated. According to diplomats, the proceedings were based on a political order. The Russian department also questioned the impartiality of the Dutch court and stated that the data declassified by the Russian Defense Ministry were ignored during the meeting. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that this trial could become “one of the most scandalous in the history of legal proceedings.”
Boeing 777 of Malaysian Airlines, following flight MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, crashed on July 17, 2014 in the Donetsk region. There were 298 people on board, all of them died.
