The match of the 6th round of the Dutch championship between Ajax and reigning champions Feyenoord was interrupted by the police due to fans throwing flares onto the field.
After the game was suspended and the players left the field and fans were escorted out of the stadium, mounted police had to fire tear gas outside the stadium to disperse the rioting fans, Reuters reported, citing Amsterdam police.
As a result, the game ended with a score of 3:0 in favor of the team from Rotterdam.
Ajax, which made a poor start to the season with one win, is 13th in the 18-team league. Over the previous 12 seasons, they were champions seven times and finished runners-up five times.
