The Duma will send an appeal to the UN General Assembly on the humanitarian situation in Gaza

The Russian State Duma will prepare an appeal to the UN General Assembly in connection with the difficult humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, this order was given by State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, the press service of the lower house reports.

“Children, civilians, old people, defenseless people are dying. Russia made proposals, but the United States and its hangers-on rejected them. Brazil made proposals, but the United States, along with the same friends, again rejected these proposals. In the end, the world must evaluate this,” he said at the plenary session on October 25.

Volodin also drew attention to the fact that last year’s UN General Assembly resolution on the blockade of Cuba was supported by 185 countries, and only the United States and Israel were opposed.

“Therefore, let’s take a position, and, most importantly, defend it. Especially in the issue of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, where, through the fault of the United States, all this happened due to the fact that the UN General Assembly resolution was not respected,” added the Chairman of the State Duma.

As the press service clarified, the issue was raised by Deputy Speaker Anna Kuznetsova, announcing the death of 2,360 children in Gaza in a few days.

October 24 Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Vasily Nebenzya statedthat Moscow has developed an alternative draft resolution in the UN Security Council on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Russia, he said, cannot support the American draft UN Security Council resolution on the Middle East. Moscow is asking that the Russian draft be put to a vote immediately after the document prepared by the United States.

Previously, Moscow presented its version of the resolution, but on October 9, at a meeting, France, Great Britain, Japan and the United States spoke out against the Russian draft resolution calling for a ceasefire. Another six states abstained. Nebenzya later reported that this vote showed who really wanted a truce and who was pursuing political goals.

Brazil also proposed a draft resolution, but the United States vetoed it because the document did not mention Israel’s right to self-defense.

Since October 7, fighting has been going on in southern Israel between the Palestinian group Hamas and the IDF. The Israeli army is conducting a retaliatory Operation Iron Swords, striking the Gaza Strip, and also announces a ground operation in the enclave. As a result of the fighting, according to the latest data, about 6,500 people were killed, including more than 5,000 from the Gaza Strip. During the fighting died 23 Russian citizens, four missing.
