State Duma deputy Burmatov spoke about new rules for transporting animals on trains

The rules for transporting animals in railway transport will change. Their development will be carried out by a special working group. First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Vladimir Burmatov spoke about the first initiatives in a conversation with radio “TVNZ”.

The expert noted that to formulate a new regulation, it is not necessary to prescribe all cases of force majeure – it is enough to highlight the priorities on the basis of which the conductors will act.

The first priority, according to Burmatov, is that animals transported by people are not garbage or luggage, and they cannot simply be thrown out of the vehicle.

“Russian Railways agreed with this priority and today they have already introduced a ban on disembarking animals from rolling stock,” said the deputy.

He also noted that the safety of the vehicle, the people and animals in it is important. The State Duma deputy expressed confidence that if all this is observed, then the story of Twix the cat will not repeat itself.

The parliamentarian explained that the handler should not throw away the animal if for some reason it is left alone.

“The train must reach the nearest station, the conductor must call the appropriate team and draw up a report, the animal is handed over to the team and sent to a temporary holding point until the owner shows up,” said Vladimir Burlatov.

The working group will collect all proposals on the rules for transporting animals within two weeks, the deputy said. A meeting of the working group will take place in early February, where all regulations will be approved.

Let us remind you that the conductor threw out the cat during a stop in Kirov. The animal was in a carrier, but at some point broke out of it and began to walk around the carriage. According to the woman, she thought that this stray animal had entered the carriage.

A few days later the cat was found dead.

Russian Railways reported that the company plans to personalize transportation of animals on trains when issuing a ticket.
