The DPR welcomed the new route to Crimea: along the sea by rail

Construction has already begun

Ukrainian special services and Western intelligence services are sharpening their teeth on the Crimean Bridge, leaving no attempt to cause any harm to it. Meanwhile, the Russian authorities intend to connect the territories of the Russian Federation with the Crimean peninsula not only with a bridge and a highway, but also with a railway line. Construction has already begun.

Donetsk residents could only dream of building a railway route from the Rostov region to Crimea through the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Zaporozhye region. Officially, the authorities of the new regions only reported on the design of the construction of the railway, but according to information from local residents, construction work is in full swing.

The highway is being laid along the Sea of Azov, which will connect Taganrog, Mariupol, Berdyansk, Melitopol and Dzhankoy, reducing the distance between the regions by almost 200 kilometers.

Today, railway communication in Donbass and Novorossiya operates in certain “safe” sections. Even under the Ukrainian government, the railway tracks and infrastructure almost turned into ruins and now specialists are faced with the difficult task of restoring, and in some areas even building everything from scratch.

And it is impossible to call the old railway, which passed through Donetsk, Volnovakha and Tokmak, convenient from a logistics point of view. Today, the DPR and the “mainland” are connected by one railway route: from Makeyevka to Rostov-on-Don with a transfer to the Uspenka checkpoint. In total, such a journey takes a long 7 hours, and even despite the cheap tickets (compared to public and private transportation at 1500-2000 rubles per person, the cost of travel by rail is about 400 rubles), not everyone can handle such a road.

Last year, another land road opened for the Donetsk residents. Thanks to the liberation of territories, the road through new regions to Crimea made it possible to reduce the time from 20-23 hours on a bus to 7-8 hours. This also affected the cost of the trip, reducing it by 300-500 rubles.

It is too early to predict how much the construction of the railway line will reduce the cost of the road to Crimea, but residents of the DPR are already confident that this will only benefit their region. Donetsk residents on social networks also note the importance of laying a railway track along the coast of the Azov Sea for the development of tourism in the DPR. “The road near the Sea of Azov can turn it into a pearl for recreation for millions of Russian citizens,” Donetsk resident Valery writes under the news about the construction.
