Endocrinologist Prokopenko explained when the syndrome of night eating occurs
Endocrinologist Elena Prokopenko in an interview with aif.ru warned Russians about the danger of night eating syndrome and told in what cases it can occur.
According to Prokopenko, night eating syndrome is one of the eating disorders in which a person consumes more than a quarter of the total daily calories after dinner, or eats at night, waking up from hunger.
The endocrinologist explained that the basis of the night eating syndrome is usually stressful events that provoke night awakenings in susceptible people. At the same time, the specialist pointed out that nightly meals increase the risk of other, more serious eating disorders.
The doctor warned that eating at night can lead to obesity, anxiety, depression and morning anorexia. Prokopenko added that these conditions require diagnosis and treatment, including with the use of cognitive behavioral therapy.
