The development of sports in the Novgorod region: the number of scholarships will be increased for athletes and “smart” playgrounds will be built

Governor Andrei Nikitin and Minister of Sports of the Novgorod Region Kristina Mikhailova discussed the development of sports in the region and measures to encourage athletes. The minister thanked the head of the region for participating in supporting athletes and coaches.
In 2022, due to the restriction of the participation of athletes from Russia in international competitions, the regional law on lump-sum payments for high sports results was changed.
In 2023, athletes and coaches of the region have already been awarded for winning the main competitions of the country – the All-Russian Spartakiad of the strongest and the Spartakiad of students. According to Mikhailova, this year the number of sports scholarships will increase, their size will also almost double.
The minister also stressed that the Active Longevity project has become one of the best practices for introducing older citizens to a healthy lifestyle.
“Last year, the festival “Charging Longevity Together” received a huge response. This year we plan to hold it in August,
– said Christina Mikhailova.
The region also has such mass sports projects as ZaBeg.RF, the yoga festival, and the Suvorov rally. Similar events are planned to be held every year.
There are special institutions for the training of athletes in the region. The overhaul of two rowing pools is being completed at the sports school of the Olympic reserve “Olimp”. Also, by the beginning of the new academic year, major repairs will be completed at the Sparta sports boarding school and a school stadium will be equipped under the Gazprom for Children project.

Andrey Nikitin emphasized.
In 2023, sports and recreation centers in Shimsk and Lyubytin should be built. The creation of “smart” sites with free access to the network has become a modern trend. This is done for the possibility of self-training. They promise to build such sites before June 1 in Veliky Novgorod, Borovichi and Pestovo.
