According to information received from the press service of the Rocket and Space Corporation (RSC) Energia, the Russian Orbital Space Station (ROS) will be able to operate in low-Earth orbit for 50 years. This is possible thanks to the principle of open modular architecture, which allows you to replace used modules with new ones.
Modules can be replaced upon expiration of their designated service life or when it is necessary to improve technical equipment or in the event of emergency situations.
According to the agency’s interlocutor, over 50 years of operation of the ROS, up to three generations of modules may change. The application associated with this news is not listed.
