Igor Azarov, a deputy of the City Duma of Krasnodar from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, wrote a statement about the surrender of the deputy mandate. In his Telegram channel he said that he is now in Serbia and is not going to return to Russia due to his attitude towards hostilities and the likelihood of being mobilized, which he assesses as high.

“I came here in early October on a long-planned business trip, after which I was going to return to Russia. However, a few days ago I decided not to return,” said Igor Azarov. He named his position on Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine as the main reason for this decision. The deputy wrote that his convictions do not allow him to take up arms for the sake of goals and tasks that he does not understand. Noting that the probability of becoming mobilized in his case is very high, he stated that killing a person is worse for him than prison and death.

He also stressed that he does not consider it right to remain a deputy while abroad, because this excludes the opportunity to meet with people and interact with municipal services, solving the problems of voters. “In the current circumstances, the strength and desire to discuss bike paths on Stavropolskaya (a street in Krasnodar.— “b”) and I don’t have landscaping,” he wrote. The decision, as the deputy admitted, was not easy for him, but he considers it the right one.

Igor Azarov was born in 1992 in Krasnodar. He studied at gymnasium No. 92, and in 2011 he entered Moscow State University. According to the data on website City Duma, while studying at the university, he conducted social activities: organized election observation, helped political prisoners, defended the rights of students, from the age of 22 he worked as an individual entrepreneur in the field of food production. He worked in the City Duma of Krasnodar for two years. He was elected to the City Duma from the single-mandate constituency No. 35.

According to the anti-corruption declaration, in 2021 Igor Azarov earned 768.1 thousand rubles. He also owns an apartment of 29.4 sq. m, which is in common joint ownership, and a car.
