Deputy head of the New People party faction in the State Duma, Sardana Avksentieva, said that all reasonable people must fight the “virus of denunciation, which is about to become a pandemic.” According to her, this phenomenon is spreading in the Russian cultural sphere and goes beyond its borders.

“In the spring, informers complained about yellow and blue benches in parks and schoolgirls’ braids. Then there were denunciations against kindergartens and football teams that had a rainbow in their names or symbols. For some reason, especially vigilant citizens believe that the rainbow now belongs only to minorities,” Ms. Avksentieva wrote in Telegram.

The deputy said there is a big difference between reporting a crime and “harmful chicanery.” In her opinion, some public figures build their careers on denunciations.

February 5th TASS reported that the Deputy Speaker of the State Duma and the first deputy leader of the “New People” faction, Vladislav Davankov, sent a bill on administrative punishment for abuse of the right to appeal to government agencies to the government of the Russian Federation for conclusion. The document clarifies that we are talking about complaints in order to attract the attention of the media about facts of possible violation of the law, if no violations were found as a result of inspections. Mr. Davankov told the agency, commenting on the initiative, that in Russia there are dozens of media individuals and organizations that “make a career out of persecuting unwanted artists, bloggers and musicians.”
