The Russian Ministry of Education and Science is initiating a project to create rooms for children to stay at universities, so that young mothers have the opportunity to take care of the child without interrupting their studies or teaching at the university. This was reported by the deputy head of the department, Olga Petrova.
“Now we are also intensifying the creation of rooms for children to stay at universities, that is, such a policy is also being pursued, and this is necessary, and it is necessary both for female students and for young teachers who also came, gave a lecture, and so that the child would definitely feel calm. And there are also many other support measures that will also appear this year,” Petrova said at a public discussion in honor of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (quoted from RIA Novosti).
To support young parents who study at universities, Russia provides a number of benefits. For example, upon the birth of a child, a student is entitled to a one-time benefit, the amount of which is equal to the stipend for the time she was on maternity leave. In Moscow, there is additional support for student families in the form of monthly compensation for rising food costs. It can be issued if both parents are studying full-time and their child is under 3 years old.
