Dentist: Toothbrushing can injure gums and abrade enamel, causing hypersensitivity
Dentist Kristina Maslova during a conversation with aif.ru explained why brushing teeth hard is not the best approach. Dispelling the myths associated with oral hygiene procedures, the expert recalled that the selection of a toothbrush, as well as its use, is a very responsible matter.
“Hard toothbrushes are not only useless, but also very dangerous for teeth. After all, the harder the brush and the harder the person presses on it, the more it injures the gums and hard tissues of the tooth. Such manipulation leads to erasure and the appearance of sensitivity,” emphasized Christina Maslova.
According to her, the right way is to use the right cleansing technique and choose the right brush. It should be the right size for your jaws and with a sufficiently large number of bristles. In cases where all this is in doubt, it is better to seek the advice of a dentist.
As for the efforts applied to the brush, as the doctor reminds them, they should not be excessive, regardless of the type of “instrument” chosen. Are you putting too much pressure on your brush? According to the specialist, this is easy to determine by the type of brush: if its bristles are bristling, then the pressure is clearly excessive.
