The decrease in the supply of cigarettes to Russia was associated with a decrease in their consumption

The decrease in the supply of cigarettes and sticks recorded in Russia may indicate a decrease in the use of tobacco products.
At the end of 2022, one of the world’s leading manufacturers, Philip Morris International (PMI), reduced the supply of products to Russia by 6% to $64.693 billion.
Evgeny Fedotov, the owner of the tobacco consulting agency Fedotov Group, noted that many tobacco positions showed a decline last year. This is probably due to a decrease in consumption, but there are other factors.
“This is due, firstly, to the fall in real incomes of the population, and secondly, in certain categories, to the growth of smuggling and counterfeit goods,” Evgeny Fedotov said.
However, according to Lev Grigoriev, President of the Professional Alliance of Participants in the Russian Market of Electronic Nicotine Systems (PAURRENS) association, the Russian cigarette market decreased by the same 6% in 2022. The expert emphasized that this is the usual figure for a decrease over 12 months.
The day before, the police seized a 46-year-old resident of the Kalar district confiscated from the sale of more than six thousand packs of cigarettes for 700 thousand rubles.
