Maria Abunina, an employee of the IZMIRAN Space Weather Forecast Center, said that the magnetic storm on December 1 could become one of the most powerful in 2023. The website of the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Laboratory of Solar X-ray Astronomy of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences reports that the geomagnetic storm has already reached the G3 level.
Abunina said that in clear weather, aurora may appear over Moscow.
The power of magnetic storms is assessed on a five-point scale. Level G1 corresponds to a weak magnetic storm, G3 to a strong one, and G5 is the maximum.
