10 Danish Leopard 1 tanks arrived on the territory of Ukraine, reported in the press service of the Danish Ministry of Defense.
“10 Leopard 1 tanks are already in Ukraine and more are on the way. Thus, they can become part of the offensive with which the Ukrainians continue to advance,” the defense ministry said in a statement. They added that crew training takes place in Germany.
“Together with Germany, Denmark is supplying Ukraine with almost 100 tanks,” said the country’s acting defense minister Troels Lund Poulsen, as quoted by the ministry’s press service.
Earlier it was reported that the Danish authorities allocated 1 billion Danish kroner (about $1.5 million) for the supply of tanks, ammunition and training of Ukrainian soldiers. The German government also allocated an equivalent amount of DKK 1 billion for these purposes. In May Poulsen reportedthat Denmark, together with Germany, will supply 80 Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine.
In June, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius statedthat Germany is going to increase supplies of refurbished Leopard 1A5 to Ukraine.
Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to the Ukrainian army. The Kremlin said that supplying tanks to Kyiv would not change the situation in the special operation zone, but would “add problems” for Ukraine.
