Danish Football Union chairman Jesper Meller said the organization is ready to discuss the possibility of withdrawing from FIFA. A similar decision may be made due to the #OneLove armband scandal in support of LGBT people at the World Cup in Qatar.
Previously, seven European teams planning to wear anti-discrimination bandages, including a Danish one, refused from this plan after FIFA threatened them with sporting sanctions. The delegation of the Danish Football Union then stated that it would not support current FIFA President Gianni Infantino in the next elections. Mr. Meller also said that Denmark is considering the possibility of withdrawing from FIFA and is ready to discuss this with all 55 member states of the organization.
“I believe there could be problems if Denmark goes away on its own. But let’s see if we can have a dialogue on these issues, ”Jesper Meller said at a press conference (quoted from The Athletic). “I have to think about how to restore confidence in FIFA. We have to assess what happened and then we have to develop a strategy,” said the head of the Danish Football Union.
Today, November 23, the German national team spent protest action due to the ban on wearing armbands with LGBT symbols at the World Cup.
