The CSTO does not take drastic measures on the latest conflicts involving members of the organization, as it gives priority to political and diplomatic methods, Colonel-General Anatoly Sidorov, head of the CSTO advance team in Armenia, told reporters.
According to him, the CSTO “still does not pull out a saber from its scabbard” in the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, but “an unpleasant situation for the CSTO” has developed in the Armenian-Azerbaijani and Tajik-Kyrgyzstan.
“At the same time, in our charter, in documents, and in the Collective Security Treaty itself, it is written that priority is given to political and diplomatic methods,” Sidorov said.
In the coming week, conflicts on the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan escalated, and a large number of deaths were reported.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan, on the air of the public television of Armenia, criticized the activities of Russia and the CSTO in the context of the aggravation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani confrontation.
