The Criminal Law Convention on Corruption has been terminated in relation to Russia

The effect of the Convention on Criminal Liability for Corruption in relations between the Russian Federation and other parties to the convention was terminated from July 1, 2023. Official message of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation published on the Internet portal of legal information today, 4 July.
The Council of Europe Convention was signed on behalf of the Russian Federation in Strasbourg on January 27, 1999.
Russia start exit process from the Council of Europe in March 2022. Since September 16 RF stopped be a party to the European Convention on Human Rights.
In January, President Vladimir Putin introduced to the State Duma a bill on the denunciation by Russia of the Convention on Criminal Liability for Corruption. February 28 Russia denounced convention and treaties of the Council of Europe. Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov claimsthat the fight against corruption in the country has been going on for many years and will continue. According to him, the denunciation of the convention “in no way undermines our domestic legislative capacity.”
