The Akhmatovsky District Court of Grozny found the wife of the former member of the Supreme Court of Chechnya, Saydi Yangulbaev, Zarema Musaeva, guilty of committing violence against a government official and fraud. This is reported by TASS from the courtroom.

“Based on the totality of crimes, by partial addition of punishments, the final punishment for Musayeva’s departure is five years and six months in prison with serving in a correctional colony of general regime,” said judge Musa Ediev.

The defenders of Zarema Musayeva filed a petition to postpone the meeting due to attacks against her lawyer Alexander Nemov, but the court refused. Musayeva’s second lawyer Alexander Savin also attended the reading. The court found the 53-year-old woman guilty on two counts: under Part 2 of Art. 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Use of violence against a representative of authority”) and part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Fraud”).

In January 2022, her family reported that a woman had been kidnapped in Nizhny Novgorod. Later, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic explained that she was forcibly brought in for questioning as a witness in a fraud case initiated in 2019. The department reported that Zarema Musayeva attacked a policeman and “almost deprived him of an eye.”

Ex-judge Saydi Yangulbaev connected the case against his wife with the activities of their sons. Ibragim and Baysangur Yangulbaevs were charged with incitement to terrorism and work with an extremist organization: they ran a Telegram channel sympathetic to the separatists. According to Ramzan Kadyrov, “The whole family of the Yangulbaevs unequivocally support terrorist groups.”

Zarema Musayeva has type 2 diabetes. She has been in jail for over a year. During this time, her blood sugar levels doubled, her back pain worsened, and her eyesight worsened, according to her defense team and relatives. The court denied hospitalization – this decision was explained by the fact that her health “does not raise any doubts.”

At the announcement of the verdict to Zarema Musayeva should have been present Novaya Gazeta journalist Yelena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov. They were severely beaten upon arrival in Chechnya.
