The court sentenced ex-minister Abyzov to 12 years in a maximum security colony

Entrepreneur and former Russian minister for coordinating the activities of the Open Government, 51-year-old Mikhail Abyzov, was sentenced to 12 years in a maximum security colony.
The chairman of the board of the Preobrazhensky Court of Moscow, Veronika Sirategyan, during the announcement of the verdict, also stated that Abyzov must pay a fine of 80 million rubles.
Let us recall that Abyzov served as minister from May 2012 to May 2018. He was detained at the end of March 2019 on charges of fraud and organizing a criminal community. There were 11 other defendants in the case.
The case materials noted that the criminal community stole 4 billion rubles from the energy companies Sibeko and RES, and the defendants in the case, as a result of illegal business activities, received an income of 32.5 billion rubles, were engaged in commercial bribery, and money laundering.
