The court sent police officers to the colony to issue passports to those who had gone abroad.

Representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Irina Volk reported that the Moscow City Court sentenced two former employees of the migration department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to seven and eight years in prison for issuing domestic and foreign passports to Russians living abroad for a fee. This is stated in the publication on the website “Ministry of Internal Affairs MEDIA”.

The investigation found that employees of the migration department provided assistance in obtaining internal and foreign passports to Russians who permanently reside in the United States, Canada and European countries. It is noted that the documents were issued in violation of the procedure established by law, according to which the citizen is obliged to be personally present when the document is issued. As Volk noted, for providing this type of service, former employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs received, through a business intermediary, a remuneration in the amount of 2 million rubles.

She added that the Moscow City Court found the former employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs guilty of accepting a bribe (Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Volk clarified that in addition to the prison term, the court also imposed a “large fine” on them, the amount of which was not disclosed. Also, a representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the business intermediary of the criminals was found guilty of mediation in bribery (Article 291.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and sentenced to imprisonment for a period of five years.
