The Samara Regional Court rejected an appeal against the arrest of singer Charlotte (real name Eduard Charlotte), upholding the decision of the Kirov District Court. His lawyer Alexey Lapuzin told the TASS agency about this.
In December, the court arrested Charlotte until January 24 under articles on the rehabilitation of Nazism (Part 4 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and insulting the feelings of believers (Part 1 of Article 148 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
The basis for initiating a criminal case was several videos that the singer published on Instagram (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned), while in Yerevan in the summer of 2023. In the video, the singer burns a Russian passport, tears the St. George ribbon in the shape of the letter Z, and also nails a portrait of Patriarch Kirill to the crucifix of Jesus Christ.
November 22 singer detained upon arrival from Yerevan to St. Petersburg at Pulkovo Airport. After the court’s arrest, Charlotte asked for forgiveness from the “Russian people” in poetic form.
