On January 27, the Babushkinsky Court in Moscow sentenced the former shiigumen Sergiy to seven years in a penal colony on charges of extremism.
Note that the new term was added up for the totality of crimes for which the previous sentence was passed to the minister.
In addition, according to a source, Sergiy’s assistant Vsevolod Moguchev was sentenced to five years in prison.
Earlier, the prosecutor demanded to extend by seven years the term of ex-schemamonk Sergius – Nikolai Romanov – for inciting hatred. The prosecutor’s office also demands five years in prison for Sergiy’s former assistant, Vsevolod Moguchev. The defendants made their final statement on January 25 during the court session.
Recall that schemamonk Sergius was arrested in 2021 – after the security forces stormed the Sredneuralsky convent. Sergius was accused of driving a man to suicide. Then the former shiigumen was charged with arbitrariness and violation of the right to freedom of conscience.
