The court limited the term for Furgal to familiarize himself with the “economic” case

The Basmanny Court of Moscow has decided to restrict the ex-governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Sergei Furgal, from familiarizing himself with the materials of the criminal case on fraud and organizing a criminal community until April 7. This was reported to TASS by his lawyer Mikhail Karpetyan.
The defense plans to appeal this decision. The case file contains 265 volumes. Now Sergei Furgal has read only one-fifth of the materials of the case.
The “economic” case against Furgal was initiated under the article on the organization of a criminal community (Article 210 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and several episodes of the article on fraud (Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), as well as on illegal participation in business activities (Article 289 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). It is connected with the Amurstal plant. There are about ten people involved. They are charged with damage in the amount of more than 3 billion rubles. None of them plead guilty.
On February 10, Sergey Furgal, who was the governor of the Khabarovsk Territory from 2018 to 2020, was recognized by jury guilty of two contract killings and attempts and sentenced to 22 years in a strict regime colony. The defense considered the sentence unlawful and unreasonable. Due to the arrest of Sergei Furgal in 2020, mass protests took place in the Khabarovsk Territory.
