The Meshchansky Court of Moscow extended the term of detention in a pre-trial detention center for former municipal deputy Ilya Yashin (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation), who is accused of spreading fakes about the Russian army, transmits “RIA News”.

“To extend the detention until May 10,” the judge announced the decision.

It is noted that the prosecutor asked to extend the period of Yashin’s arrest, saying that the circumstances of detention had not disappeared. He added that the politician owns a share in an apartment in Bulgaria, which “is an unfriendly state and is part of the European Union, which, if he leaves Russia, will create problems with his extradition.”

In early November, the Investigative Committee completed an investigation into Yashin’s criminal case. The department explained that Yashin is charged under Part 2 of Art. 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (dissemination of deliberately false information about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation). The maximum penalty under this article is up to 10 years in prison.

On July 12, a criminal case was opened against Yashin for disseminating deliberately false information about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. On July 13, the investigation charged the municipal deputy with discrediting the Russian army and spreading fakes about the actions of the Russian army.

On July 28, the Khamovnichesky Court of Moscow sent the politician under arrest for 15 days for disobeying the demands of the police. He was detained under Article 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses “Disobedience to the lawful demand of a police officer” because, according to the police report, he began to insult three officers who approached him and provoked them to a conflict. In early August, the Moscow City Court recognized Yashin’s arrest as legal and refused to release the politician from custody.
