The court in St. Petersburg returned to the prosecutor’s office the case of activist Smirnova about “military fakes”

The Kirovsky District Court of St. Petersburg returned the criminal case of political activist Olga Smirnova to the prosecutor’s office due to procedural violations. This is reported Telegram channel “Network Freedoms” today, October 10th. Olga Smirnova is accused of publicly disseminating knowingly false information about the use of the RF Armed Forces (Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to investigators, she published posts on VKontakte about the actions of the Russian army on the territory of Ukraine.
A petition to return the case to the court was filed by the activist’s lawyer Maria Zyryanova. As Network Freedoms pointed out, the court satisfied it “due to serious procedural violations that prevent the case from being considered and sentencing.”
Olga Smirnova is a member of the informal organization “Peaceful Resistance”, which actively opposes military operations on the territory of Ukraine. The activist has been in jail since May 2022. According to the investigation, in March of this year, she posted a post on the Peaceful Resistance page on VKontakte containing allegedly unreliable information about the use of the Russian army (part 2 of article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
