The State Department explained the difference in approaches to the situation in Gaza and Ukraine
All conflicts and the circumstances surrounding them are different. This is how Deputy Head of the State Department Press Service Vedant Patel answered a journalist’s question about the difference in the approaches of the American authorities to the situation in the Gaza Strip and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
The official said that Washington sees no reason to accuse Israel of genocide of the Palestinians, and “one must make such statements very carefully.”
Moreover, when Patel was asked why in 2022, US President Joe Biden “very quickly” called the events in Ukraine “genocide,” the State Department representative was unable to give a more specific explanation. He only noted that “such definitions must be given upon careful consideration of the laws and facts,” without specifying exactly what facts he had in mind.
Earlier, Irish MEP Mick Wallace said that the Ukrainian conflict still continues due to the reluctance of the United States to stop it. He expressed the same opinion regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip.
The media also note that the International Criminal Court, at the behest of the United States, ignored many years of genocide in Palestine, Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, and therefore the ICC is “unfair in choosing topics for study” and has turned into “unscrupulous legal body of the West”.
