For the opening of navigation on the Moskva River and the navigable part of the Yauza, the communal fleet of the capital began preparations. This unique service is responsible for maintaining cleanliness in the waterways of Moscow.
According to the deputy mayor of the capital, Petr Biryukov, it includes high-speed boats, garbage collector motor ships, floating cranes and other vessels.
“With the opening of navigation, they collect garbage from the water surface on a daily basis, eliminate pollution, remove silt,” he explained.
Last year, the utility fleet collected approximately 600 tons of floating debris and eliminated about 80 pollution. The entire water area of the Moskva River and the navigable section of the Yauza within the Moscow Ring Road, thanks to the competent arrangement of the fleet, are under round-the-clock control.
Biryukov said that during the inter-navigation period, the service carefully checks the technical condition of ships, repairs or replacement of engines, fluids and consumables, improves propulsion and steering systems, and checks pumping equipment.
“At the final stage, we will conduct sea trials to assess the readiness of the fleet for the opening of river navigation,” Biryukov said.
According to him, all works on inter-navigational repairs are being carried out in accordance with the schedule and will be completed in April.
