The Khamovnichesky District Court of Moscow sentenced Kirill Sukhanov, commercial director of the Oztorozhno Media holding Ksenia Sobchak, to 7.5 years in a maximum security colony in the case of extortion of 11 million rubles. from the head of Rostec Sergei Chemezov.

Two other defendants – former editor-in-chief of the Russian version of Tatler magazine Arian Kuzmin (Romanovsky) and journalist Tamerlan Bigaev – each received 7 years in prison in a maximum security colony.

The case was investigated by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow. The defendants were charged with extortion on an especially large scale (Part 3 of Article 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The prosecutor asked that Kirill Sukhanov be sentenced to 8 years in prison, and the other two defendants – 7.5 years in prison.

According to investigators, the defendants demanded money from Sergei Chemezov for deleting a post with defamatory information in the “Lights Out” Telegram channel. In court, Kirill Sukhanov admitted that he received 800 thousand rubles, but he did not admit publishing posts on the “Lights Out” channel. According to Kirill Sukhanov, he did not have access to the channel.

Kirill Sukhanov was detained in October 2022 in a restaurant in the center of Moscow while receiving a tranche of 800 thousand rubles. from Sergei Chemezov’s representative Andrey Baldukhaev. The accused stated that they were carrying out instructions from Ksenia Sobchak. At the same time, Ms. Sobchak said that she had nothing to do with the work of the Telegram channel. In November of the same year, she visited the Rostec office, and then apologized to Sergei Chemezov on the Telegram channel.
