The commander of the Il-76 shot down in the Belgorod region was a native of Tambov

Stanislav Bezzubkin, originally from Tambov, was the commander of the Il-76, which crashed in the Belgorod region on January 24. This was announced by the Governor of the Tambov region Maxim Egorov. There were Ukrainian prisoners of war on board the plane, all of them died.
“On behalf of the residents of the Tambov region, I express my sincere condolences to the relatives of our fellow countryman Stanislav Bezzubkin and all crew members,” Mr. Egorov wrote in his Telegram channel.
Il-76 crashed on January 24 in the Korochansky district. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the plane was shot down from an anti-aircraft missile system of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. As a result of the crash, 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war, six crew members and three accompanying persons were killed. The pilots who also died served in the Orenburg regiment.
State Duma Defense Representative Andrei Kartapolov said that the prisoners of war were transported for exchange with the Ukrainian side. The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine confirmed the planned exchange, but does not have reliable information about who was on board the plane.
