The GVSU of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation accuses the previously detained head of the department of the maritime department of the Russian Guard, Sergei Volkov, of supplying low-quality complexes for combating UAVs, which were intended to protect the Crimean bridge, TASS reports.

The agency correspondent reported from the hall of the 235th Garrison Military Court, where the issue of Volkov’s arrest is being considered, that “with his direct participation” the troops of the Russian Guard received 2 radar systems to combat drones, “the technical characteristics of which were insufficient for the successful completion of tasks to counter modern UAV. This is what the investigator said in court.

The case file states that, as a result of the auction, a state contract was concluded between the Federal State Unitary Enterprise RNIIRS and the National Guard for a total amount of about 395.5 million rubles, the agency informs. The contract provided for the supply of two anti-UAV radar systems, which they planned to use, among other things, to protect the Crimean bridge.

However, during the execution of the contract, it turned out that the performance characteristics of this equipment did not allow us to successfully solve the tasks of combating drones.

Nevertheless, Colonel Volkov provided the conditions for the adoption of the complexes by the troops of the department.

The officer was charged under the article “Exceeding the powers that entailed grave consequences”, he faces up to 10 years in prison.

Earlier, State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein told reporters that the security officers of the Russian Guard, together with the GVSU SK and the FSB, stopped a corruption scheme for supplying low-quality and faulty weapons to the troops at obviously inflated prices.
