“The coach will not let me give up”: a 15-year-old athlete from Noyabrsk told how she lifts 100-kilogram barbells

On February 8, young November girl Evelina Gafarova became the first winner from the Yamal team at the Russian powerlifting championship. 15 year old girl won bronze, taking in the sum of three exercises almost 300 kilograms of weight. The athlete made a real sensation: the inhabitants of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug discuss her achievement in social networks, marveling at how a fragile girl lifts such weights. The MK Yamal correspondent talked with Evelina and found out what helps her stay strong.

Powerlifting is a powerlifting sport that includes the back squat, bench press, and deadlift. In the sum of three exercises, Evelina took 277.5 kilograms at the Russian championship in Noyabrsk, although she herself weighs only 43 kilos. She admitted to us that she was preparing for a different outcome.

“I thought it would be completely different. For example, in squats, I took 105 kilograms instead of 115-117, because I was stupid. In the bench press – 70 kilos, and pulled 102.5. The competition was easy for me, because I was well tuned and prepared. Of course, I wanted to collect the amount a little more, but it turned out like this. Despite the fact that I could have performed better, I am completely satisfied with the result,” Evelina Gafarova told our correspondent.

The girl was born and lives in Noyabrsk, studies in the eighth grade at school number 5. According to her, her acquaintance with powerlifting happened spontaneously. The schoolgirl came to the gym just to keep fit, but after one lesson, the coach Roman Bakhshiev enrolled her in his group. The athlete has been professionally powerlifting for the third year, and the November woman has an answer to the question of how she manages to lift such heavy barbells.

“If you like what you do, then doing the exercises is easy. Nothing will work if you do not invest in your occupation of strength, time and diligence. Every competition you pass is a great experience, even if you failed at some point. A lot depends on the coach. If I make a stupid mistake, he will not let me give up and give up, ”said Evelina.

In March, the athlete will go to Yekaterinburg for the Russian championship in bench press. The girl plans to take a place in the top three.
