According to the Kyrgyz Football Union, all the matches of group “I” were hosted by the Bishkek stadium named after D. Omurzakov. The first round of the qualifying tournament in the category U-17 Kyrgyzstan was successful, beating Hong Kong 2-1.
Kyrgyzstan’s next fight was with the Iranian team. Prior to that, the Iranians defeated the Laos team in Group I with a devastating score of 11:1. The meeting on the field with this team for the Kyrgyz team also turned out to be unsuccessful. The Iranians failed to score a single ball into the goal, but the Iranian team managed to drive the ball into the goal of Kyrgyzstan more than once. The Kyrgyz team lost with a score of 0:4.
The match between Kyrgyzstan and Laos was decisive for the hosts, which also ended in a loss for the republic, with a score of 1:2. Despite the support of the fans, the Kyrgyzstanis could not reach the opponent’s goal in the first half, and in the second half the decisive goal from the Laotians arrived at the very end of the match, in extra time.
Following the results of the competition, at the post-match briefing, the head coach of the youth team of Kyrgyzstan Samat Suimaliev noted some miscalculations, which, in his opinion, did not allow his wards to go to the Asian Cup-2023. He thanked the fans for their support and apologized to them for the result of Kyrgyzstan in the group table, taking responsibility.
– On behalf of the entire coaching staff, and on behalf of the guys, I apologize. Thank you, our fans, for coming to the matches and supporting our guys to the end. All responsibility lies with me. There is no need to criticize them, these guys – their life must go on, and football life too, – he urged. – If you want to criticize – criticize me, if you want to call names – call me names, but the guys did everything possible that was in their power, in their education, and for this tournament they took a step forward, they developed with each game and will continue to develop. I apologize to the fans again.
In 2023, the Asian Cup will be hosted by Qatar and will feature 23 teams plus the Qatar national team and the Chinese national team.
