Periods of high heat have disrupted the operation of data storage centers.
A bit of heat in the Netherlands. Tempers flared in the country after the publication of a study revealing that the water consumption of a Microsoft data storage center had soared last year, due to heat peaks. Does this mean that these “data centers” are incompatible with new climatic conditions? The question is worrying because digital technology has invaded all areas of business and consumer life. It is impossible today to do without cloud services and the infrastructures that go with them.
Data center operators did not wait for the latest heat waves to tackle the problem. “Twenty years ago, data centers were designed to withstand heat of up to 32 degrees, then 35-38 degrees ten years ago.
