The City Court of St. Petersburg liquidated the fund for helping LGBT “Sphere”

On September 7, the St. Petersburg City Court, as an appellate instance, decided to liquidate the Sfera human rights foundation (recognized as a foreign agent), which provides assistance to representatives of the LGBT community. Information about the meeting is posted on the website of the court.
The lawsuit, initially – to the Kuibyshevsky District Court, filed Ministry of Justice. The department disagreed with some provisions of the charter, in response to which the fund spoke of its readiness to eliminate violations. In addition, the Ministry of Justice was not satisfied that the activities of the organization did not comply with state policy in the field of family relations.
On September 7, after the decision of the appellate instance, the liquidation comes into force. Thus, the mention of “Sphere” will disappear from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities. “The fact that the courts so easily decide the fate of organizations that have built their practice for years is a very, very sad sign. In fact, a death sentence has been passed today. It was issued earlier, confirmed today and entered into force at the moment the appeal ruling was announced, ”Vitaly Isakov, a lawyer from the Institute of Law and Public Policy (recognized as a foreign agent), told Sphere itself.
At the same time, the fund will not stop helping LGBT people, said its head Dilya Gafurova. “We see the situation with the rights of the LGBT+ community in Russia today, with human rights in general, and we do not consider it possible to afford to put an end to it, despite all the obstacles created by our activities,” she is quoted on the organization’s website.
