The CIA may introduce artificial intelligence to analyze big data

The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) plans to introduce artificial intelligence to analyze information from open sources, writes Bloomberg agency.

A CIA spokesman said the agency is preparing to introduce a feature similar to OpenAI Inc.’s program, which will use artificial intelligence. The specialized division – The Open Source Enterprise (OSE) – plans to present its tool in the near future, which will allow analyzing large volumes of data.

Bloomberg notes that this is part of a broader government campaign to harness the power of artificial intelligence and compete with China, which aims to become the world leader in this field by 2030. The division’s director, Randy Nixon, explained that the new tool will first allow agents to see the original source of information, and Then you can go to the next level and ask the machines questions.

The tool will be available to all units that are part of the CIA, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and some branches of the armed forces. The department did not specify which models would be used to support the tool or how it would be protected, but Nixon assured that politicians and the public would not have access to it.

The agency notes that discussions are underway on how to use the large amount of information without compromising confidentiality. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence is concerned that intelligence agencies are using a “virtually unregulated commercial market” to buy data on people. The intelligence community considers this information to be open source information.
