The National Olympic Committee of China (NOC) supported the statement of the International Olympic Committee on the possible return of athletes from Russia and Belarus to the competition.
“The Chinese NOC believes that all athletes should have equal rights to participate in international tournaments,” Xinhua news agency quoted the Chinese NOC as saying.
It is noted that the rights of athletes to participate in such competitions “should be determined on the basis of sports results, without the interference of political and other factors.”
The NOC of China also noted: “We will actively support the initiatives and decisions of the IOC and are ready to help Russian and Belarusian athletes to work together to protect the Olympic values and the unity of the Olympic family.”
On January 25, the IOC urged sports federations to consider allowing Russians to compete in a neutral status. Before that, the head of the IOC, Thomas Bach, spoke in favor of the return of athletes from the Russian Federation to world sports.
