Chinese Foreign Ministry: Beijing respects the sovereignty of all countries formerly part of the USSR
China respects the sovereignty of all countries that were formerly part of the Soviet Union. So the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, commented on the words of the Chinese ambassador to France, Lu Shae, about Crimea and the sovereignty of the countries of the former USSR.
“In terms of territorial sovereignty, China’s position has always been clear. China respects the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of all countries and upholds the purposes and principles of the UN Charter,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.
Mao Ning also added that Beijing has repeatedly expressed its position on the Ukrainian conflict, stressing that China is ready to continue working with the international community to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.
Earlier, Chinese Ambassador to France Liu Shaye said that Crimea “originally” was Russian, and the countries of the former USSR “lost their sovereignty” and “do not have a valid status.”
