The head physician of the Kommunarka clinic, Denis Protsenko, said that the figure skater Roman Kostomarov had severe multiple organ failure with complete anuria – the absence of the urinary function of the kidneys. There were also problems with the lungs, with the work of the heart, Protsenko said, saying that multiple organ failure affected almost all organs.
The organ dysfunction began to resolve two days ago, and the figure skater’s kidney function is gradually recovering, said Protsenko, cited by aif.ru. According to him, it is impossible to make predictions as to whether such dynamics will continue.
When Kostomarov entered Kommunarka, the chances of his survival were minimal, and doctors chose the only option that would save the skater’s life, Protsenko said. He also stated that all decisions were made jointly with Kostomarov and his relatives.
