In the capital of the Republic of Mari El, the city of Yoshkar-Ola, from March 5 to 6, the chess championship of the Volga District of the National Guard Troops of the Russian Federation was held.

57 best chess players from 19 teams representing military units and territorial bodies of the Volga District of the Russian Guard competed for the title of winner.

The opening ceremony of the competition was attended by the head of physical training and sports of the district, Colonel Sergei Aristov, the head of the Office of the Russian Guard for the Republic of Mari El, police colonel Alexander Golub, invited guests and participants of the competition.

“Chess is a sport that helps you find the right tactics, the ability to assess the situation and look for ways to solve the most difficult situations. In the age of high technology, it is important to be able to think ahead so as not to be defeated. I wish everyone to make exactly the move that will lead them to victory,” Colonel Sergei Aristov delivered a welcoming speech before the start of the competition.

Chess games were played according to the Swiss discipline of “fast chess”, using an electronic clock, without necessarily recording moves. The tournament was held in seven rounds. The individual championship was determined by the highest number of points scored.

The chief judge was the head of physical training and sports of the combat training department of the district administration, Colonel Sergei Aristov. His assistants were sports judge of the All-Russian category Sergei Fedorov, first category judge Evgeny Fedorov and second category judge Ekaterina Berezina.

The struggle in chess battles was tense, sharp and uncompromising. The tournament participants showed their best qualities, a high level of intellectual play, passion for sports, persistent struggle, and the will to win.

According to the results of the chess championship in the team championship, the first place was taken by the team of the military unit from the city of Sarov, the second step of the podium went to the athletes of the military unit from the city of Kirov, and the top three was completed by representatives of the military unit from the city of Bogorodsk.

In the individual championship, Maxim S. (Kirov) won, Yuri B. (Kirov) became the silver medalist, and Sergei Shch (Sarov) took third place.

The winners and runners-up of the championship were awarded cups, medals and certificates from the commander of the Volga District of the National Guard of the Russian Federation.





Summing up the results of the competition, the head of physical training and sports of the district, Colonel Sergei Aristov, noted the high preparation of the athletes for the championship. He also expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Office of the Russian Guard for the Republic of Mari El, representatives of the panel of judges for the high level of organization and conduct of the championship, and the warm welcome of the competition participants.

In addition, on the eve of International Women’s Day, the organizers of the event congratulated the women taking part in the competition on the upcoming holiday and presented them with memorable gifts.
