Chairman of the board of directors of St. Petersburg SKA Alexander Medvedev criticized the work of the referees of the playoffs of the Continental Hockey League (KHL). On March 26, SKA lost the fifth match of the Gagarin Cup quarterfinals to Avtomobilist and ended the season. SKA has not been able to win the main KHL trophy for seven years.
“In terms of judging, yesterday we saw something that has been going on all season. The playoffs, including the fifth match of the series with Avtomobilist, only confirmed this,” said Alexander Medvedev (quoted from Telegram– SKA channel). Among the moments of the match criticized by Mr. Medvedev were the removal of goalkeeper Nikita Serebryakov and the delay of the puck.
“The club has been faced with similar questionable refereeing decisions throughout the season. In the playoffs, SKA has the most two-minute penalties by a significant margin. The most shooting team in the League with the most attacking style of play – but the most penalties. There is no other way to explain this other than bias,” he added.
Alexander Medvedev noted that the problems faced by SKA players “do not arise out of nowhere.” Most of them, in his opinion, are related to “missed dirt” and uncalled fouls. “I think all referees need to look in the mirror and change the way they work. Incomprehensibly canceled goals, strange deletions – all this has been going on for a long time, and no one takes responsibility. Therefore, Chatsky’s question from “Woe from Wit”: “Who are the judges?” is far from rhetorical, but requires an answer,” concluded the chairman of the SKA board of directors.
