CEC member Pavel Andreev in conversation with “Izvestia” called on Russians living abroad to detach themselves from polling stations in Russia and join foreign ones. According to Mr. Andreev, this will allow Russian citizens to avoid sanctions for voting multiple times in the presidential elections (March 15-17).

Pavel Andreev explained that a voter should be on the list in only one polling station. If a voter registered in a Russian polling station comes to vote at a polling station in another country, he will receive ballots at both polling stations. In this case, he will have to write a statement and indicate that he did not vote twice.

“Those who have permanent registration in the Russian Federation, but plan to vote abroad, can use the Mobile Voter system to reassign themselves to a polling station abroad. Unfortunately, given the opportunity to vote abroad without taking these actions, many ignore this requirement,” said Pavel Andreev.

According to current administrative legislation, receiving a ballot more than once involves a fine of 30 thousand rubles. According to the Criminal Code, repeated voting is punishable by a fine of up to 300 thousand rubles. or imprisonment for up to three years.
