Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Nikolai Bulaev said that the military, located in the combat zone, will be able to vote in the September elections in new regions in extraterritorial areas. However, the deputy chairman of the CEC noted that voting in the new regions will be organized in places that are safe for the military and members of the commissions.
“The creation of extraterritorial polling stations will enable military personnel to exercise their active suffrage in elections to state bodies,” the deputy chairman of the CEC said in an interview with TASS.
“If a decision is made to hold elections in new subjects, then voting will be organized only in those places where there will be no additional risks to the life and health of both military personnel and members of precinct commissions who will conduct this vote,” Nikolai Bulaev added. .
May 18 State Duma accepted martial law election law. The document establishes the right of new regions of Russia to determine the specifics of the conduct of elections. At the same time, elections in these regions can be held after the appeal of the head of the region and consultations with the Ministry of Defense and the FSB.
A single voting day is scheduled for September 10: on this day, 78 election campaigns will be held in 54 subjects. For the first time, Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions will take part in the voting.
