The reason for the failure of the Runet on January 30 was the imperfection of the DNSSEC software. This was reported to the CC for .RU/.РФ domains.
At the moment, the investigation is not stopping, but it is already obvious that the main cause of the problems was the imperfection of the software used to create encryption keys, as indicated in a statement published on the organization’s website.
Analysts believe that, in general, DNSSEC as a means of ensuring the security of Internet users worked as expected: “the work of DNS servers that did not confirm the authenticity of their response to domain name resolution requests was promptly blocked.”
It emphasizes that DNSSEC needs to be improved over time to correct any deficiencies that have been identified.
